I am a chemist (MChem)/physicist (PhD) working in electrochemical engineering. Amongst other things, my group makes new materials (mostly with graphene and other 2D materials) and use them to improve energy applications. Recently, we have been focusing on making new electrodes for improved lithium-ion batteries, next generation batteries (e.g. sodium-ion and magnesium-ion, lithium sulfur) and hydrogen fuel cell catalysts. Importantly all methods used are scalable as I am interested in the commercialization of research, and I try to work with industry and policy makers with a view to making a real world impact! To date I have raised over £1.5m grant funding for my research group of nine PhD students (four as primary supervisor) and two post-doctoral researchers. I also sit on the facility access panel for the ISIS Muon and Neutron source.In terms of teaching I have a an undergraduate level chemistry class of around 150 students and an energy storage class at a masters level of around 70 students.
