During the gap between biannual JTEPS led exercises in 2008 was appointed Commander Joint Task Force for Operation Zest on Tristan da Cunha. - Given a demanding timeline, rapidly drew together a small, diverse team and through strong leadership and infectious enthusiasm garnered a highly effective unity of effort amongst a previously disparate grouping of organisations. - Rebuilt the island’s only re-supply harbour and avoided the requirement for a full evacuation. David Morley, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office-appointed Island Administrator at the time said of the Task Force's efforts: "The work that the Joint Task Force has carried out has saved our harbour and we are incredibly grateful. Not only have they worked long and hard hours without a complaint they have created a real bond with the community. Tristan Islanders have long memories and the wonderful relationship created between them and the Op ZEST Joint Task Force will remain for years."
