Building on a career covering engineering R&D, testing, product prototyping, product support and customer service spanning power generation, energy and process sectors, I've been responsible for running the National Wind Turbine Test Centre (located upon Myres Hill) and renewable energy projects both there and in other field-based locations. Following pioneering work on wind and wave power systems at the National Engineering Laboratory (‘The NEL’) in the early 80's, the business continued to provide technical support for selected large wind energy technologies. I was instrumental too in launching The Small Wind Turbine Club and through this ‘The NEL’ was able to work with manufacturers and developers of wind turbines or related measurement technologies. As part of this engagement with the industry I also sat on several standards development committees. While ‘The NEL’ remained UKAS accredited for testing small wind turbines under the RenewableUK's MCS scheme and for testing to IEC-61400-11 and -12 standards, a more mobilised testing service for larger wind turbines and any associated special grid integration technologies was developed.Specialties: Wind Turbine Power Performance and Acoustic Noise Testing, Measurement campaigns with LiDAR deployed at ground level or nacelle mounted and other R & D work.
