My daily tasks include but are not restricted to the following:- Review drawings and prepare them to be imported into the Lighting calculation software, Dialux Evo. - Modelling of spaces based on the plans and look book for clients- Ensuring adequate lighting levels for Task, accent & ambient lighting throughout- Plotting all luminaires onto CAD drawings to be issued for reviews/tenders- Completing O & M Manuals to be kept by clients for future information- Quoting projects from small local stores to large CAT A & B office fit-outs- Completing BOQ take offs for project pricing- Value engineering projects when budget restraints come into effect on projects. - Designing projects from early conceptual design moving through to delivering projects on time and within budget. - Resolving any issues that can arise once fittings arrive on site, i.e. building services kit restrictions etc. - Speaking with clients and manufacturers to ensure all aspects of a project are covered to the finest detail.

Dublin

Day to day responsibilities included the following - IESVE thermal modelling and dynamic simulation for new and existing projects around Ireland & the UK. This software can be used to analyse all of the following on a day to day basis,- Heating and cooling loads- Overheating/Solar Shading analysis for Part L compliance- Internal Daylighting Analysis (for compliance with BRE Guidelines)- Amenity Space shadow studies (for compliance with BRE Guidelines)- Right to light of surrounding buildings- The comparison of different Ventilation strategies within a given area- Commercial BERs (Building Energy Ratings) analysis for new buildingsIESVE is a powerful building analysis tool that allows the user to change and simulate numerous different strategies very easily with accurate results.For domestic buildings the use of a software package called the Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure (DEAP) is used to generate a certificate known as a Building Energy Rating (BER) . This is a legal requirement when renting or selling a property in Ireland. The software is also used to insure compliance with the most recent version of the building regulation (Part L) in Ireland. The software can be used to compare different methods of achieving Part L compliance with very accurate results. Calculating U Values for use in the DEAP software.

New Zealand

After I completed my final year of college I have decided to take a year out to experience more of the world. I feel if I don't go travelling at this point in my life I never will! I have chosen New Zealand to travel as the landscape is superb and it is a place that has always interested me.

As shift supervisor I am in charge of all staff and I deal with any issues that arise with customers, suppliers and staff. I am responsible for till drops and taking bookings for large catering orders.

Waterford City

As part of my final year of study I had to choose a topic to do a dissertation on. As I have an interest in everything transport orientated I decided to complete my dissertation on Biofuels. I focused on the creation of biodiesel from recyclable residues such as used cooking oil and tallow.

Motherwell, Scotland

While on placement in Argent energy, I was tasked with a project to increase the yields from the solid materials contained within the Used Cooking Oil (UCO) that is cleaned to be used as a biodiesel feedstock. Once I came up with an idea, I ran it passed two colleagues and they suggested some changes. I recorded the savings made over the entirety of my placement and a figure of over 500L of oil recovered from solids per week. This fluctuated depending on the amount of oil processed. Once the project above was completed, I then helped install a new mixing line used to produce different blends of Biodiesel. Finally after this was completed, I helped install a new piece of machinery that would increase the production capability of the site. My work experience finished up just before the machine was commissioned.
