As the Data Administrator for the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the New York State Psychiatric Institute I oversee the data management for the many large long-term clinical research projects investigating treatments for various anxiety disorders. I lead a small team of data specialists, and we work together on all aspects of data management from experimental design and concept, through data collection to analysis and publication of results. We design tailor-made solutions for each project using Microsoft Access, SQL Server 2008, SPSS, and other database tools.

For my graduate work I developed non-invasive techniques for measuring steroid hormones in wild spotted hyenas, and used these techniques to enhance our understanding of environmental stressors and aggressive behavior of these large carnivores.

Developmental Biology (ZOL 320): Fall 2003, 2004 This was a laboratory course focused on the embryological development of anatomical structures. As an instructor I guided students in microscope work with fixed slides, wet-labs, such as sea urchin fertilization and chick cardia bifida, and introduced students to current trends in the field of developmental biology. I also aided students in building their science writing skills. Environmental Physiology (ZOL 483): Spring 2004-5, 2007 This course focused on learning physiology by enhancing student understanding of the processes through which animals are shaped by, and how they are adapted to, their environments. I led recitation sections and expanded on key topics explored in the main lecture section through discussion, debate, and small group activities. I enhanced student understanding of physiology by guiding them through primary literature, introducing them to basic statistics, and helped them understand how to interpret the goals and outcomes of a research project. Students were responsible for writing a term paper in this class, and I gave students personalized feed-back at several stages leading to the final project. Genetics (ZOL 341): Summer 2004, 2006 I led recitation sections focused on expanding key topics relating to lecture. I also guided students through genetics based problem-sets specifically designed, not only to instruct students in genetics, but to also develop critical thinking skills.

I supervised a large project focused on the study and conservation of wild orangutans. I managed Indonesian staff, project finances, and data-collection while living in a remote field station. I also acted as a liaison between American researchers and local and national officials to promote conservation of the National Park.

I assisted doctors in small and large animal general practice, as well as surgery. I processed lab results, performed and developed x-rays, and gave vaccinations.

In this position I oversaw data-collection for a large primate research project, supervised scheduling of staff, and collaborated with veterinary staff on care of animals. As part of this project I worked with UNIX based programming to organize project data. Dr. Wallen also supervised my senior thesis work that focused on the function of leptin during pregnancy in rhesus monkeys. PUBLICATIONS Peer Reviewed Articles
