3UP anticipated cloud services in providing a server blade solution of high density to include switching, traffic control, diskless boot, firewall and load balancing. 3UP was first to market integrated virtualization and SDN/NFV provisioning capabilities in a blade server. Directed product architecture alongside engineering (PRD/MRD), and coordinated outbound marketing efforts focused on customer acquisition and product feature management. Team designed, in-house, switching and chassis management as the foundation of the architecture for the system, in contrast to other vendors' offerings where the Ethernet switches were sourced from ODM suppliers.3UP's architecture was fundamentally better for remotely managed, dynamically reconfigured systems, where management of servers, networking and storage are converging.3UP engineering alumni have gone on to found several successful SDN network companies: Pica8, and Woven Systems acquired by Fortinet.

iBEAM Broadcasting pioneered high fidelity video streaming via satellite, ad-enabled content, to Internet viewers. Major media and entertainment including BBC, Bloomberg, MSNBC, FOX, NFL, Golf Channel, the Academy Awards and a significant portion of Internet radio was webcast via iBEAM.Led network engineering and architecture group responsible for global network architecture, deployment, provisioning and operation delivering availability over iBEAM global CDN network; including satellite, edge, metro and transit networks.Network architecture bypassed Internet congestion, bringing broadcast quality streaming video to entertainment audiences; delivering value at a lower cost than other CDN cached distribution methods.iBEAM was the first company to invent and deploy a network dedicated to streaming media and the "edge network" concept. At its peak, iBEAM traded at $2bil, raised 30+ million privately and 300 million via its IPO, delivered 80% of all audio streaming on the Internet, and owned all top media accounts in the US. iBEAM firsts: • first to insert ads into streaming media; • first with FCC rights to broadcast earnings calls; • first to deliver IP/TV streaming service via satellite; • developed Real's G2 reflector technology;• helped design the first layer-7 switch with Foundry Networks; • first to simulcast with TV show; • improved time slicing and TCP/IP utilization of satellite.iBEAM's business relationships and large media customer partners did not survive the ‘dotcom bubble’ collapse in 2001.
