Serving as a Climate Change Fellow, I work with rural small businesses and agricultural producers to gain access to grant funding and loan guarantees to improve access to renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements by facilitating the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). I provide guidance to grant recipients and interested parties on program requirements, application assistance, and general program procedures. Additionally, I assist other team members with the with the completion of Statewide grant program evaluations to ensure the programs are effectively implemented to ensure consistency with National and State grant program policies. Furthermore, I provide advice, exchange information, resolve problems, and coordinate outreach efforts.

As an Island Institute Fellow, I worked with the City of Eastport on projects relating to energy and community resiliency. Collaborate with Eastport City Manager on implementing municipal policy in focus areas of energy, climate resilience, and community services. Produce research reports on questions of municipal policy for members of City Council. Facilitated Eastport’s joining the Community Resiliency Partnerships, a program run by the State of Maine to provide resources for communities to reduce carbon emissions, transition to clean energy, and become more resilient to climate change effects such as to extreme weather, flooding, rising sea levels, public health impacts, and more. Developed relationships with community partners and other island organizations. Acted as a community advocate as Eastport participated in the Energy Transition Initiative Partnership Program (ETIPP) run by the US Department of Energy. The Island Fellows Program places graduates in Maine’s coastal and year-round island communities for one to two years, helping to build sustainability within communities whose way of life and identity face many challenges.
