The University of Northern Iowa’s strategic plan specifically highlights the importance of community engagement and its role in student success. As an ICAP member I have the opportunity to provide coordination and ease of access to programs, specifically tied to the teaching, research and service mission of the University. In this position, I also support existing UNI programs and centers to catalyze effective collaboration across campus to benefit student learning and development. Specifically, within the ICAP position I focus on capacity building for student community engagement opportunities, as well as develop new programs and opportunities that enhance student civic awareness.

Story City, Iowa

In this position, I developed a strong work ethic and developed skills in communication, problem solving, and teamwork. As a camp counselor, I worked twenty-three hours a day for three months leading bible studies, facilitating large and small group games, performing in skits, and gained a well-rounded perspective of service through assisting with kitchen and maintenance projects. I learned how to be an excellent communicator; communicating with parents, campers, supervisors, and coworkers. Throughout my time as a counselor, I also learned how to problem solve and adapt to changing plans. Lastly, I learned the importance of teamwork and how to work both independently, but also with others; utilizing each other's strengths and gifts.

Fairmont High School

I had the opportunity to develop many clerical skills as a student office worker at Fairmont Jr/Sr High School. In this position, I helped students register for classes, gave tours to incoming students, answered phone calls, made labels, faxed information, organized file cabinets, printed paper copies, and sorted mail.

Fairmont, Mn

I was an enthusiastic receptionist at the front desk of the Fairmont Aquatic Park as well as responsible for customer satisfaction and cleanliness of concession stand area. In this position, I took reservations for parties, distributed rules and guidelines to patrons in person and over the intercom, announced safety procedures when bad weather arose, answered the telephone, took admission, and prepared food in the concession stand.
