Teach a class for MBA and other professional school students at Yale that examines high-impact approaches to philanthropy and systems change. Draw on a wide network of philanthropists, foundation leaders and philanthropic advisors to bring timely case studies to class for students to debate and discuss.

Designed, launched, and scaled Achievement First’s “open source” strategy to significantly impact student achievement growth at partner district and charter schools.Grew AF Accelerate from a pilot project in 2010 to an independent division that supported over 40,000 students across the country in 2021 with partner schools demonstrating impressive growth as measured by state test results and key leading indicators such as growth in student interim assessments and teacher skill.Built a high-performing, virtual, diverse team. Directly managed and coached 3 senior team members who led AF Accelerate programs and the support team responsible for program operations, data and assessment, development, and virtual and a-synchronous learning.Created the vision for long-term financial sustainability for the division through a mix of earned revenue and philanthropic support. Secured funding from national and local foundations and individual donors to support an annual budget that grew from $250K to $6M over 10 years. Increased earned revenue as a percentage of the total budget from 7% to 35% over 4 years.Coached CEOs from charter networks participating in AF Accelerate programs, supporting them in management of their senior team, clarifying strategic direction, and successful execution of key priorities.

Led engagements that guided nonprofit executives to develop effective strategy grounded in data-driven insights; directed project teams to conduct in-depth research and analysis such as focus groups, demographic research, and analysis of the landscape; developed financial models to assess feasibility of strategic options and guide decision making.As part of the leadership team, engaged in recruiting and evaluating staff, representing the firm to potential clients, and writing proposals.

Reconfigured product innovation process in lagging consumer products company: benchmarked product offerings vis a vis competitors; restructured staff assignments for seven products, conducted implementation planning including creating templates and timelines to support work of new team structure and working with senior management to realign incentives and performance evaluations with work on innovation teams.Developed strategy for integrating recent acquisition of beverage manufacturer: analyzed product overlap and distribution issues associated with merger of two product lines.

Defined the federal policy and advocacy agenda for the federation of 36 settlement houses (multi-service, neighborhood-based, social-service organizations) operating in New York City: presented monthly to senior executives on current legislation; coached executives for meetings with Federal legislators; worked in coalition with other advocacy organizations to coordinate activities.Conceived of and developed a Civics Education Program: raised $50,000 in foundation funding; authored 50-page manual for training and program implementation; trained 75 staff members to implement program across 20 agencies; consulted to two centers tailoring program to specific operational needs.Prepared financial analysis of federation’s $150 million budget; projected impact on services of proposed policy changes.
