As a Research Consultant I worked on an assessment of the interventions undertaken by Save the Children India (Vipla Foundation) in the state of Maharashtra. The interventions were aimed at supporting the prosecution system to increase conviction rate and deter the crime of sex trafficking in the long run as well as improve victim participation.

As a Consultant with the Prison Reforms Programme at the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative I was responsible for addressing the rights of foreign nationals imprisoned in India, including refugees and asylum seekers. Through in-depth research and liaison, I was able to facilitate many foreign national prisoners in exercising their basic rights. I worked on individual cases as well as larger policy issues during this tenure. I was successful in assisting with release, ensuring legal representation, conducting interviews and in absentia registrations, providing adequate identification documentation and counseling, access to consular officials and sentence transfer to home country for many foreign nationals imprisoned in India, including refugees and asylum seekers. I have experience in liaising with Embassies/ High Commissions, UNHCR, UNICEF, State Prison Departments, State Home Departments, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Police Departments and Judicial Officers. The projects were funded by Oak Foundation, UNHCR and Julia Taft Foundation.
