Supervise and perform technical and administrative tasks in a large laboratory. Oversee equipment maintenance. Insure adequate supplies for experimental needs. Assist in personnel management. Manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Assist in laboratory space and facilities planning; make recommendations for changes if needed.

I was responsible for all aspects of the clinical DNA testing and lab management at Kimball Genetics. My responsibilities included accessioning of patient samples, DNA extractions, PCR, restriction enzyme digests with subsequent gel electrophoresis of genomic and PCR DNA, southern transfer, probe preparation and hybridization, and sample analysis. I was also responsible for the validation of new tests and troubleshooting of problems. In addition I did all the reagent and equipment purchasing and the quality control and improvement for the lab. I maintained the lab QC protocols and records.

I was a research technician in the molecular biology and tissue culture laboratories. In the molecular lab, I worked on a corn Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) project doing DNA fingerprinting and progeny studies. In the tissue culture lab I worked on a potato improvement project. I evaluated the plants in culture and in the field. Lab work involved media development, experiment design, virus indexing and eradication. Fieldwork involved yields trials, high soluble solids testing and insect, bruise and disease resistance screening.
