Profile bio

About Pam Force

My passion is to provide superior services to library customers. I have worked as a librarian in both educational and public settings, including 9 years as a Library Media Specialist (LMS) for a K-12 school, where I planned, developed, and ran a college-prep library media program. My goal is to always to offer a robust collection of library materials/media via the media center and its databases, pathfinders, ebooks, instruction and services. I have strategically curated collections of materials in all formats/genres. I created a robust Library media center website, and collections of digital materials/ pathfinders, frequently designed in collaboration with teachers, intended to support instruction. I also curated collections of materials meant to inform all readers, helping students develop a love of reading, regardless of format. I managed an online, integrated library catalog and database collection, empowering students to become effective readers who know how to find, use, and create information to inform their own learning. Skills in which I have special training include information resources collaboration and consulting, various professional development opportunities for staff, visual arts and arts instruction, research, information literacy, and yearbook instruction. I also have been trained to use a number of specialty STEM materials, including LEGO Mindstorms, Ozobots (programmable robotics), and EggBot. I have run book clubs, art classes, Banned Books and Pizza annual weekly events and celebrations, yearbook class, and technology clubs just to name a few. I have obtained traveling cultural art exhibits designed for youth that were displayed in the library and throughout the school, brought in guest authors and speakers, as well as running an annual Banned Books and Pizza week-long event complete with programs on censorship/book challenge history, games, displays, and daily literacy puzzles. With the new changes to education, the LMS role is more important than ever. LMSs need to continue to support reading literacy and the 'reading lives' of the school community. It is vital for the LMS to curate a vibrant digital collection of resources, and to build strong instructional partnerships through collaboration. The LMS will need to be strategic with budget and resource selections, in order to support equitable student learning. Community partnerships should be pursued in support of this end. Most of all, making sure - even at a distance - that students are competent readers who know how to effectively use and develop ideas and information.

Listed skills include Research, Libraries, Customer Service, Microsoft Office, and 9 others.
