Operations ManagerNaukati Bay Shellfish Nursery Jul 2016 - Jul 2018As the Operations Manager for the Naukati Bay Shellfish Nursery, I am responsible for the successful operation and maintenance of a Pacific oyster shellfish nursery facility including conditions affecting health and growth of shellfish seed (spat). My duties include developing and implementing systems for the inventory, cleaning, and sorting of Pacific oyster spat and tracking and monitoring the shellfish spat health. I oversee the ordering and receiving of spat as well as customer service, spat sales, packing, shipping, and billing. I coordinate and conduct approved tours of the facility and insure all safety regulations are briefed and followed. I am responsible for providing training, oversight, and a safe work environment for all volunteer laborers. When funding is available and approved, I interview, select, hire, and train qualified paid laborers utilizing fair and equitable hiring practices.I chair a standing Shellfish Nursery Committee that reports to the Naukati Bay Incorporated (NBI) Board of Directors at scheduled meetings. I work extensively with the Committee and on behalf of NBI to complete periodic reports and grant proposals. I represent the nursery at all site inspections of regulating entities, report all recommendations and instructions to the Committee and the Board, and I am responsible for addressing all short-comings and deficiencies to ensure compliance with inspecting agencies.I provide the strategic plan for the nursery with emphasis on the economic health and growth of the community of Naukati Bay, playing an active role in assisting the Board’s decision-making on a balanced utilization of profits for the greatest benefit to the members of the community in concert with the expansion and improvement of nursery operations as well as other aquaculture pursuits to stimulate economic growth.
