About Pam Shields

I am a registered Nurse with over 30 years experience. I have worked extensively in acute care, and community health services. I currently work in health care management within Community health . My skills include service design, project management, quality improvement using LEAN and Model of improvement methodologies, research and management of teams for success. My achievements include designing and implementing a smoking cessation service within a HARP Respiratory chronic disease program. This was an innovative service that was evaluated and resulted in a publication in the Journal of Smoking Cessation.I have project managed change processes including embedding a Nurse practitioner service into a community health GP clinic, a medication safety quality improvement plan within community health, a quality improvement process using LEAN methodology to improve a pulmonary rehabilitation service, and redesigned an assessment template within chronic disease to meet the criteria for the NSQHS standards.I remain very interested in research and evaluation methodologies. This began with my Honours in Behavioural Science, Psychology, where I examined the effect of exercise in pregnancy on the mental health and well being of mothers. This was followed up by research into smoking cessation techniques for the patient with Chronic respiratory disease. I am currently looking into formal research of service design within the marginalised community using an industrial design approach. My management style is collaborative and inclusive. I receive feedback that my staff feel consulted and part of the change process. My management roles have required performance management of under performing staff leading to exceptional staff making up my team. This makes me a successful leader in the healthcare system.
