Pam Cannell has dedicated her entire career to nonprofit leadership and board governance, playing an active role in the nonprofit community for over 30 years.As the Founder, Immediate Past President and CEO of BoardBuild, Pam led efforts to strengthen communities through the training and matching of emerging and established leaders with qualified nonprofit boards. Pam now consults on behalf of BoardBuild to further the mission of training and diversifying nonprofit boards. She is passionate about creating opportunity through collaboration and demonstrates her commitment as Past President of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, Founder of the Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition, and a member of the Rotary Club of Fort Worth where she serves on the board of directors, chairs the strategic planning and membership committees and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Pam is also an engaged member of the Women’s Policy Forum, UPWARD Women, ReflectUS Texas Leadership Council, and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.     The mission of the Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition (FWDPC) is to prevent fatal and non-fatal drowning in north TX and beyond. We achieve this mission by equipping non-swimmers with life-saving skills as well as educating parents/caregivers on water safety education. As the founder and passion-driven leader of the FWDPC, the coalition has flourished as a grassroots, volunteer-driven community collaboration. Results under my guidance include:• 1459 non-swimmers now safer in and around water.• Increased accessibility to water safety & swim lessons in Fort Worth. Program ethnicity: 52% Hispanic, 28% African-American, 16% Caucasian, 2% Asian, 2% Other• 90% of students demonstrate comfort in the water by the conclusion of class. • 861 learn-to-swim scholarships awarded following successful completion of drowning prevention classes• 1460 life jackets distributed. 6-month post survey revealed 100% retention of PFDs and 90% of recipients had had reason to use the life jackets.• Parent/caregiver education to 6072 community members who have now become ambassadors for water safety within their own network of family & friends.• Drowning is a community problem requiring a community response. Our grassroots efforts to date have engaged 538 volunteers for a total of >9000 hours on deck and >2400 board hours.• 99.7% of volunteers reported in a post-survey the desire to volunteer in the future.• Roughly 1/3 of the volunteers we have trained are young adults who have learned life-long teaching skills and were seen as role models by young students.
