After two decades of studying Hip Hop pedagogy, personal finance, racial economic inclusion, and interpersonal neurobiology (the study of how we are hurt and how we heal in relationships - yes it’s as awesome and deep as it sounds), here’s what we know is true:❤️🩹 Money is emotional - Every decision you make around money starts in your nervous system. How we spend our money represents our values, feelings, and state of mind.📉 The game is rigged - If most of us are struggling financially, if most of us are having mental health issues, it’s not you, it’s the system. We can only fight it if we acknowledge it’s there.💅🏽 Wants are needs too - Wants fulfill our emotional needs and when you give yourself permission to want things and get them, your willpower gets replenished and you can feel like yourself.🌈 You are not bad at money - There is no such thing as being “good” or “bad” at money. You make decisions based on what will make you feel safe in the moment and that is okay. When you can find safety in other ways, your habits will change.🔮Savings is your crystal ball - You cannot envision the future if your nervous system doesn’t feel safe in the present. When you save money, you give yourself permission to imagine what’s possible. Having savings gives you the ability to see into your future, literally. Our programs integrate Hip Hop pedagogy, interpersonal neurobiology, culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices, and CFP®-level financial concepts that include a racial wealth equity/economic justice lens. All these elements together give you the spaciousness you need to heal your relationship with money and build generational wealth.

Co-Founder And Director Of Finance & StrategyPockets Change Dec 2008 - PresentPocketschange.ComBUILDING FINANCIAL RESILIENCE THROUGH HIP HOP PEDAGOGYFinancial education is more than numbers, it’s a tool for self-care and social justice. It all starts with talking about money together. We’re creating spaces for intergenerational conversations where students, parents, and educators go beyond financial literacy to build financial resilience. Together we look at money as a tool and financial decision-making as a personal path. As a community we develop an understanding of our personal relationship with money, new ways of thinking and talking about money, and the skills to take action and advocate for ourselves and others. Our curriculum and workshops make change happen through Hip Hop pedagogy, which focuses on understanding self-identity in relation to the whole. By connecting Hip Hop and Finance, we develop an understanding of ourselves and our relationship with money. We build financial habits that resonate with our personal identity. We discover how we process information and how to effectively communicate & collaborate. By starting with self-care and personal agency we build our individual capacity to take part in social justice efforts and create change in our lives, our communities, and our world. Understanding our finances impacts more than our wallets, it gives us the skills to thrive.Want to book a workshop? Email andrea@pocketschange.com -

The rules change all the time so the people on top stay on top. What if you not only knew the rules, but knew exactly how to apply it to your own financial situation? What if you were able to not only reverse your financial mistakes, but start making the rules work for you? The financial industry is designed to take advantage of People of Color. It's time to change that. Let's do it together.
