Founded in 1978, ISA helps training, performance and talent development firms build, enhance and share their success. Member include more than 60 companies that are contributing to the success of more than 100,000 clients across the Fortune 500.As the first full time Executive Director of ISA, I was hired to “professionalize” the association. The Board of Directors trusted and empowered me to facilitate the installation and implementation of service tools ISA had never utilized, from basic voicemail to email to professional sales calls. I challenged ISA to shift its focus and value proposition and strive to become known as the only remaining industry-specific trade association dedicated to the needs and interests of CEOs, presidents, owners, and founders of training and talent development firms. With a membership value proposition strongly rooted in business experience, the business model became focused on personal relationships for collaborative learning and business growth. Job responsibilities included:• Developing, proposing, and implementing strategic plans• Engaging volunteers as trusted leader volunteers of the organization• Advising and coaching CEOs, founders, presidents from all sizes of privately held companies for personal leadership growth as well as business growth• Facilitating peer learning groupsKey achievements:• Recruited and engaged ISA members to serve as volunteer leaders, resulting in more than 50% of ISA’s membership participating • Implemented membership strategy that resulted in membership retention of 90% (up from 72%). Facilitated Board leadership• Worked with members to create hundreds of successful events

The Association for Talent Development (ATD) is a professional membership organization supporting those who develop the knowledge and skills of employees in organizations around the world. The association was previously known as ASTD.In my eleven years with ATD I helped grow the association from 25,000 members to nearly 50,000 members. During this tenure, I served in five roles:• Marketing Director – Facilitated a collaborative cross functional marketing strategy development process.• Quality Improvement Director – I introduced process management and development for cross functional teams, teamwork was no longer dreaded.• Customer Service Director – I envisioned and managed the development of the first centralized customer service function. • General Manager of Membership – Working with the 140 U.S. chapters, I established four regional chapter field offices. Chapter relations improved dramatically improved, and both chapter member enrollment and national member enrollment grew significantly.• Vice President & General Manager – I served as a staff member on ASTD’s Board of Directors and enjoyed the opportunity of working with some of the largest corporations engaged in work related employee leadership and management development training in the world.During my time with this organization, I learned to manage up and across, to lead change, to advocate for new services that benefited our membership. I earned the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and innovate with new programs. It was a hands-on MBA experience.
