Technology is developing more IQ, but it lacks EQ. Our smartphones don’t know if we are having a good day or a bad day. Our cars couldn't care less about compassion. Our home assistants are barely aware if we are shouting in frustration or just joking around. A *future with feeling* is as vital to our well-being as it is to business success.My emotion-centered design studio helps organizations bring deep humanity to products and services. We work with Fortune 500s and startups to craft experiences that evoke powerful emotion, build intimacy, and grow in meaning over time. Artificial emotional intelligence or #emotionalAI will transform our world. My book, Emotionally Intelligent Design (O'Reilly, 2018), considers how that will change design. Machines are developing a rudimentary understanding of unconscious micro-expressions, the social performance of emotion, and societal patterns. This means designers need to become more emotionally intelligent, becoming more attuned to the emotional impact of their work.Recent talks (at TNW, Web Summit, TEDx, and SXSW) include: Designing a Future with Feelings, The Emotional Life of Your Autonomous Car (or Connected Home or Internet Things), and The Internet of You. I speak about everything emotion—from weird internet feels to mental health chatbots to kids' tech use.
