Pamela Z is a composer/performer and media artist who makes solo works combining a wide range of vocal techniques with electronic processing, samples, gesture activated MIDI controllers, and video. She has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan. Her work has been presented at venues and exhibitions including Bang on a Can (NY), the Japan Interlink Festival, Other Minds (SF), the Venice Biennale, and the Dakar Biennale. She has composed scores for dance, film, and new music chamber ensembles (including Kronos Quartet, Ethel, and the Bang on a Can Allstars). She's created sound and media installation works for radio and gallery exhibitions, and she has done sound design for experimental theatre.Ms. Z also does narration work for independent film, public television, and VO for sound designers. She serves on the steering committee for San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, and she presents a series of avant chamber concerts through her ROOM Series.She also has years of experience giving workshops, lecture/demonstrations, and masterclasses through her own studio and through visiting artist residencies at colleges, universities, and galleries.Pamela Z’s numerous honors and awards include the Rome Prize, the United States Artists fellowship, the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Doris Duke Artist Impact Award, a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation residency, the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts; the Creative Capital Fund; the MAP Fund, the ASCAP Music Award; an Ars Electronica honorable mention; and the NEA Japan/US Friendship Commission Fellowship. She holds a music degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
