Educator with an entrepreneurial spirit. I am a relational, innovative, and data-driven change agent with a commitment and passion to making lives better. My talent is engaging individuals and organizations to outgrow themselves and become even better! I began my career as a Kindergarten teacher and have spent over 25 years in the PreK-12 world. I have taught, coached and led. My most recent endeavor, along with a team of passionate educators from around the nation, is the development of bettertogether3, a fully integrative digital SEL program focused on developing students and adults who are able to maintain healthy relationships, self-regulate their emotional health, and show up with compassion & empathy. As a member of Dr. Brene Brown's team of Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators, I am committed to our Belonging Statement and strive to bring courage into every space I am in. “We believe that the greatest casualty of trauma is the emotional, and sometimes physical, safety required to be vulnerable, and that, in addition to violence and neglect, poverty, racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, and other systemic forms of oppression and/or bias are trauma.” ~Dr Brene Brown, Brené Brown Education and Research Group Belonging Statement Better Together CubedWe help schools and districts improve the health and well-being of educators, students, and families. Our interactive platform integrates seamlessly into your school structures and priorities. BT3 is grounded in the research of world renowned, Dr. Brené Brown with a focus on empathy, resilience, courage and connection.Website:www.bettertogethercubed.com

A wrap around digital platform designed for the entire community. The bettertogether3 program grew out of a belief that when educators feel equipped and brave enough to lead their students in a whole-hearted way, students will grow healthy and secure in their social and emotional selves and their lived experiences. And then we just kept going! -

Executive CoachConsultant American Reading Company Jul 2016 - Jul 2018I serve as an Executive Coach and Professional Development Specialist to superintendents and principals across the nation. My task is to guide these executives in their role as change agents who oversee school reform implementation initiatives. My work includes evaluating results and presenting findings in progress reports to administrators and school district board members. I also work alongside sales consultants and account managers to help identify strategies and opportunities to address critical business challenges. This change management project is multifaceted and dynamic with many moving parts.

Improvement SpecialistSt. Paul Public Schools, Office Of Teaching And Learning Aug 2013 - Jul 2016I coached administration in the lowest performing 5% of schools using Improvement Science and School Change Models. We achieved success through strategic planning that encompassed the development of a communication plan, a coaching plan, a training plan, a resistance management plan, and implementation of Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles. I learned that incorporating SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) is essential. The school is now a district lab site for administrators and program managers to visit to see Best Practices, Engagement of Learners, and Rigorous Instruction Aligned to the Common Core State Standards. I enjoyed the “think tank” culture that developed and I delighted in watching school administrators transform from managers into proactive instructional leaders.

District Instructional Coach And Professional DeveloperSt. Paul/Oakdale/Maplewood Public Schools Aug 2008 - Jun 2013As an executive coach and a professional development lead, I successfully oversaw the implementation of K-8 Literacy Reform. This work encompasses many factors from actively analyzing change readiness to identifying key stakeholders and considering their roles in the process. I learned about compromise and to work with the reality of politics and power, both the positive and the negative. I observed first hand that resistance usually is a result of not feeling heard alongside fear and or a need for more information. Working relentlessly to build bridges, I became known in the district as the “one who could win anyone over.” This experience has pushed me farther than I thought I could go and I have experienced first hand how vulnerability, honesty, and sincerity supported by a belief in others, goes a long way.

Leadership Development Coach/External Grant FacilitatorUniversity Of Minnesota, Center For Reading Research Jul 2005 - Jun 2008I consider this role to be a seminal experience in my development as a change agent. Serving as the liaison between the MN Department of Education and the Center for Reading Research in Minnesota, I led school reform for more than three years in each building. Throughout the project, I worked very closely with the Dept of Education to report progress. My work entailed significant autonomy while also requiring the development of understanding and buy-in from all stakeholders, including all departments and levels of leadership. Our success came through the implementation of a shared vision and goals for the improvement of the system, which included ensuring data-driven decision making. My field of work encompassed a private school, a rural school, and one urban charter school. Funded by a million dollar grant, I also oversaw the program budget, which required learning yet another skill and a commitment to transparency.

Adjunct Professor, Comprehension: Reading To LearnSt. Mary'S University Of Minnesota Jun 2006 - Jul 2006I led a two-week-long professional development course for teachers. As my first adult education gig outside of the elementary classroom this opportunity introduced me to my current passions of designing curriculum and managing change. I realized how much I loved being in front of people and being part of their improvement and professional growth. Following a pre-determined curriculum, I enjoyed the opportunity to learn a variety of delivery practices and better engage learners. Participating teachers came from all over the state, and it was thrilling to watch the group shift from sitting and listening to a collaborative, collegial community where each person’s skills and experiences added to the flavor of the course. -
Elementary School TeacherIsd #191 Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Aug 1988 - Jun 2005I always wanted to be a teacher. I came from a family of educators. I never thought of doing anything else. As I became more proficient and took on leadership opportunities within my district, I began to feel stifled by the politics and the lack of opportunities to grow professionally. I had finished a Master’s Degree and felt like it was time to see what else I could do that both stimulated and challenged me to make a difference. This mindset triggered the beginning of my journey to develop into the best change management coach I can be.
