About Pam Widener
Pam Widener is a seasoned writer and Emmy-nominated documentary producer with more than 25 years of experience in journalism, communications, and film and television production. As a documentary story editor and producer, Widener received two CINE Golden Eagle Awards as well as a PASS Award (Prevention for a Safer Society) from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency. In 2012 she was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award for VH1's "Planet Rock: The Story of Hip Hop and the Crack Generation."Widener began her career as a research assistant to veteran Hollywood screenwriter Barbara Turner (Georgia, Pollock). She went on to become Vice President of Development for Offline Entertainment Group, a New York-based independent film company, where she supervised creative development for Offline’s film and television divisions. She subsequently helped write and produce numerous documentaries and TV series, most notably for the VH1 Rock Docs franchise. In 2015 Widener was appointed speechwriter to New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. In that role, she drafted speeches, talking points, and other prepared remarks for the governor on a wide range of policies and issues, including economic development, civil rights and social justice, infrastructure, mass transit, healthcare, and public safety. Following her work with Governor Cuomo, Widener joined the global law firm Ropes & Gray as a senior writer supporting the firm's leadership communications needs and business objectives.Widener's articles and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Daily News, Creative Nonfiction, Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood, The Morning News, and Prison Life Magazine, where she was an editor for two years.A Greenwich Village native, Widener attended the United Nations International School, graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in English, and did graduate work in creative writing at The New School.
