Founder And President - ConsultingClose The Loop Sep 2010 - PresentToronto, Canada AreaIn 2010 I founded Close the Loop to cover a need in the market for comprehensive and holistic sustainability consulting services. Back then many companies regarded sustainability or CSR as a philanthropy and PR add-on. Today, this approach misses the huge sustainability opportunities that more and more smart companies are seizing (cost savings, stakeholder trust, competitiveness) and often backfires and results in significant risks (e.g. greenwashing, bad publicity, unnecessary costs). Close the Loop’s goal is to provide sustainability services that have a clear added value, a strong business case, and can significantly improve the competitiveness and viability of its clients. Our difference is the systemic approach which provides clarity in complexity and helps design effective improvement actions. It is the cornerstone of my sustainability research, and the secret behind our name: closed (feedback) loops are found in all systems and are crucial to the survival of organizations. Close the Loop provides sustainability consulting services that help businesses at two levels:►Strategic Sustainability Management: ✔Sustainability Strategy and Reporting (ISO26000, GRI, GRESB) ✔Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Reporting (ISO14064, GHG Protocol) ✔Materiality Analysis ✔Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement►Product Sustainability Management: ✔Life Cycle Assessment ✔Product Carbon Footprint ✔Environmental Product Declarations ✔Ecolabels As a sustainability expert, I am involved in and leading most consulting projects including project management, client relations, and report writing. As a founder and president of Close the Loop, I have also developed experience in business development, marketing, proposal writing, financial management, graphic design, networking, and contract negotiations. Part-Time Lecturer, Department Of Environmental EngineeringDemocritus University Of Thrace Sep 2007 - Jan 2008Xanthi, GreeceI started my teaching career as a part-time lecturer at the Environmental Engineering Department, Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh). I was very excited to teach the 1st year undergraduate elective course "Principles of Systems Sciences", as this course played a pivotal role in my career when I was studying in the same department. I believe this was one of the most basic courses for Environmental Engineers as it presented an overview of (1) the systems approach and (2) sustainable development, thus providing students with the necessary foundations and context for the whole undergraduate program. The learning outcomes of the course were that students would be able to: • appreciate the value of the systems approach in dealing with complex problems • understand basic systemic concepts (e.g. control, boundary, hierarchy, input, output)• build simple systemic models• use systemic concepts to explain sustainability and sustainable development issues. Students were evaluated by written exams but also by four assignments that involved applying the concepts presented in class on a specific project and gradually build up a systemic model. -
