Currently I work as a post-doctoral researcher at the Information Systems Laboratory at FORTH-ICS, and remotely at ERCIM and the University of Ioannina.I am an expert in the fields of information retrieval and exploratory search, and have a lot of expertise in the domains of web development, recommendation systems, databases, semantic web and distributed computing frameworks like spark. I obtained my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Crete, Greece, in 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Yannis Tzitzikas. The title of my PhD thesis is "Interactive Exploration of Multi-Dimensional Information Spaces with Preference Support". I am also experienced in creating 2D/3D UIs and interactive Virtual Environments, due to my undergraduate and graduate research work in the field of Virtual Reality.My current main research objective is the identification of bias in online systems, especially in the context of web search, for supporting our information societies growing informed and responsible humans / citizens / consumers.I love functional programming and especially strongly typed languages like Haskell, Purescript and Idris, although I mainly write Java code and use traditional front-end technologies in my daily activities. I am also a Linux boy since 1996 :)The rest of my time is devoted to caving, astronomy, and anything related to human senses, especially music and photography.
