Characterization of the films by micro hardness, pin-on-disc tribometer, optical profilometry (thickness, surface roughness, stress and wear rate analysis) and microstructure analysis. • Testing of Al 7075 and 2195 alloys, project supported by Lockheed Martin:Friction Stir Welded (FSW) Al 7075 and Al 2195 alloys were subjected to four-point bending in 3.5% NaCl (alternate immersion). Environmental assisted cracking of the welds and change in mechanical properties was studied for different post heat treatment given after FSW. Work involved fractography (SEM), optical microscopy, corrosion potential measurement, slow strain rate testing and preparation of TEM samples.
