Research AssistantLouisiana State University Aug 2000 - May 2002Baton Rouge, La, Us• Thin Films Project: Synthesized Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) films, Cr films, Cr/DLC multilayer films and DLC/DLC multilayer films using Plasma enhanced vacuum process. DLC films were deposited by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor deposition (PECVD). Cr films were deposited by magnetron sputter deposition. Characterization of the films by micro hardness, pin-on-disc tribometer, optical profilometry (thickness, surface roughness, stress and wear rate analysis) and microstructure analysis. • Testing of Al 7075 and 2195 alloys, project supported by Lockheed Martin:Friction Stir Welded (FSW) Al 7075 and Al 2195 alloys were subjected to four-point bending in 3.5% NaCl (alternate immersion). Environmental assisted cracking of the welds and change in mechanical properties was studied for different post heat treatment given after FSW. Work involved fractography (SEM), optical microscopy, corrosion potential measurement, slow strain rate testing and preparation of TEM samples.
