I am a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of Alberta pursuing my first position in this discipline.My most pertinent experience is my tenure as an assistant automotive technician. Where my aptitude in mechanics was tested, and I gained valuable experience in being able to communicate analytically heavy material to a wide range of people. Whether that be my experienced superior, my knowledgeable colleagues, or the general customer that may not have had the base technical understandings. The role also involved accurate estimations on work that needed to be completed. Both in terms of cost, as well as time. Which was crucial in rationing employee hours and ensuring an exceptional repair. I thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on work combined with critical problem solving. Observing the mechanical systems and theories I have been learning throughout my degree play out before my very eyes, has greatly strengthened my theoretical understanding of mechanics. But it has also solidified my realization that Engineering is the path for me.
