Over the last twenty-five years, Paolo has accumulated a considerable international experience in media, working for long periods in London, Milan and Brussels. He is an economist who graduated from Pisa University with a sound knowledge of European affairs. Paolo is the Founder and Secretary General of EAVI – the international organization based in Brussels that worked in the field of media literacy at a European level for longer than any other. He currently follows high-level fora such as the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society at the Council of Europe and follows the European Commission media literacy and other experts’ groups. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the European Audiovisual Observatory in Strasbourg and other international fora and organisations like the UNESCO MIL Alliance. Paolo has authored books, articles, policy papers and four different European-wide research studies covering 27 countries on media literacy and citizen issues. He has over 1000 citations on Academia. He previously worked for both private and public broadcasters, including advising the BBC and RAI. He has also worked for television advertising agencies and collaborated with public bodies. Paolo enjoys conducting online eaviconversations.eu with international guests and designing creative products, short audiovisuals and engaging campaigns. He directed many European projects and training about the role of media in people’s lives. He remains animated by the numerous challenges posed by emerging media forms and he is interested in the role of media, technologies, artificial intelligence, disinformation, journalism, digital parenting, citizenship and the impact on our societies. Through his activities, Paolo contributed decisively to the current understanding of media literacy. He developed further models such as the 'art of living in the digital environment'.Paolo also offers consulting services, public speaking and presentations to private companies and public institutions on media literacy and disinformation-related issues. He has been invited to speak in four different languages in more than 20 different countries at conferences across and beyond Europe.
