I worked independently on contracts. Having left my role with my previous employer E4 Environment Ltd, the company approached me to carry out contract work for some of my previous accounts. These were customers who had been impressed with my work and wished to retain my services as a third party consultant.

I undertook a lead role on producer responsibility issues and provided sustainability advice to businesses.Producer Responsibility – the main contact for clients for producer responsibility. This involved data sourcing and gathering, model development, and regular contact with clients to qualify and validate data. Presenting data for annual registration for many companies, supervising and managing staff, report writing and attending Environment Agency audits. Used a new data management system (GRIPS produced by Greenstreets) allowing to link packaging specifications to existing accounts and stock control systems, calculating compliance obligations.Pre-sales support to secure new revenue opportunities and to generate additional income for E4 Environment Ltd through additional and add-on services. Conducting legislatory health checks for companies to audit compliance.Contributing ideas as to how organisations can reduce environmental impact through a new product for the company known as the ‘Green Achiever Scheme’, which allows companies to self-monitor and self-certify performance.Site Viability studies for renewable energy.Completing waste exemptions and waste permit applications on behalf of businesses.Liaising with clients, Environment Agency, DEFRA and compliance schemes.

My position involved providing research support to the senior consultants and associate consultants. I worked closely with councils, other consultancies, and community groups to raise awareness and promote various reduce, reuse and recycle schemes. Through this I:Making use of my thorough research and data collection skills, with the ability to transfer the results from the data into accessible and meaningful reports to be used for decision-making.Carried out a review of wasteline services on behalf of DEFRA to establish value for money delivered by the service. This involved reviewing other services providing information on waste management to the public, industry and other organisations.Organisation of a bulky waste seminar for local authorities and community groups, ensuring that the appropriate stakeholders were represented.Preparing and leading focus groups across the country on recycling and social issues, working with a diverse range of people from distinct socio-economic groups and beliefs.MEL was contracted out to gather all relevant information and write “State of the Composting Industry” for 2004/05, for the Composting Association. As Project Manager for this contract, I played a key role to the project being completed on time. MEL was re-commissioned for a further two years, and I was retained in the role of Project Manager. I also project managed an indepth research project into recycling behaviour for Essex County Council. This was a challenging task as it concerned 12 different districts. The objective of the project was to establish key differences between recyclers and non-recyclers and look at how recycling rates could be improved.Experience of reviewing Bulky Waste data (Shropshire, Luton and Hull)Producing many waste analysis reports for Local Authorities around the UK.
