I began apprenticing with them to better learn about the projects I would be working on. After the company closed its doors I continued with my electrical apprenticeship. Between the time that I took leave from engineering to when I resumed my path working in the electrical industry, I worked for nine semesters as a high school math and science teacher in Torreón, México at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, a top private school system. Prior to leaving for teaching in January of 2004, I spent 2 years volunteering with PALS (Project Adult Literacy Society) Edmonton and singing in the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus.I also worked on a five month contract in 2010 for the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers where I was part of development of new curriculum for the Engineers' and Technologists' Integration Program (ETIP), a program designed to help newcomers to Canada practice workplace specific English skills and update their technical qualifications.
