Originally trained as an engineer and biochemist, my research spans proteomics, computational and experimental systems biology, cancer biology and nanotechnology. In particular, my academic lab at Stanford has been pioneering systems-biology and big-data approaches towards understanding disease mechanisms, discovering biomarkers and enabling personalized medicine. Most recently, my academic group has been developing model-based and physics-based approaches to machine learning that enable learning over domains that span a wide range of time and length scales. As an educator, I am excited about ways our lab can create opportunities that help improve diversity and inclusiveness in science.Beyond Stanford I am co-founder of Nautilus Biotechnology, a company developing a next generation, single-molecule, protein analysis platform. I also advise numerous biotechnology and diagnostics companies.Outside of my scientific interests, I am a professional magician and variety performer. My adventures in circus and magic have taken me all over the world for clients ranging from A-List Celebrities to Fortune 500 companies.
