Electric Motor Design for UAV propulsion (15 kW/ 10 kRPM):• Explored synchronous reluctance (SynRM) and permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance (PMaSynRM) motors for lightweight and cheap propulsion• Designed and optimized (electromagnetic & structural) 36 slot/ 4 pole and 36 slot/ 12 pole SynRM and PMaSynRM• Performed case study on effect of flux barriers (2 and 3) and pole counts (4 and 12) on saliency and output torque• Utilized Ansys Maxwell for electromagnetic verifications and Ansys Workbench for structural validationElectromagnetic Susceptibility Testing for aerospace drive train:• Explored electromagnetic shielding due to Common Mode (CM) currents in the cables interfacing the aircraft inverter and motor• Characterized shielding effectiveness of different braids (AgCu & ArmorLite) via EMI testing in accordance to DO160-G standards for single phase and three phase conductors• Assisted in test-bench automation using TILE! to link the signal generator, current transducer and EMI receiver to reduce material characterization time.
