Parag is an experienced community lawyer who has worked with collectives, cooperatives, nonprofit and exempt organizations, social enterprises, community funds, philanthropies, and land and community ecosystem stewards across the U.S. His work integrates a heart-centered approach to transformational transactional practice with a holistic orientation to his clients’ contexts, values, and goals. He has experience as outside general counsel to large nonprofits and social enterprises and has supported new and mature cooperatives, and land and social justice investment projects.Parag co-founded Gilmore Khandhar, LLC, a law firm focused on using legal, policy and advocacy tools to advance economic justice, racial equity and social transformation grounded in a solidarity economies framework in 2014. The firm has a portfolio of clients that include Black-led land sovereignty and cooperative enterprises, immigrant-owned enterprises, and initiatives that center and are led by criminal processing system-impacted and formerly incarcerated community members. Prior to co-founding the firm, Parag worked at the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center as a Housing & Community Justice Attorney focusing on tenants rights and language access, and taught at University of Baltimore School of Law Community Development Clinic, the Small Business and Community Economic Development Clinic at George Washington University Law School, and the American University Washington College of Law, in the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic.Parag is a member of the bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
