Gram Power is an energy technology company founded in San Francisco, USA. Company provides cutting edge Smart Grid technologies to address the electrification challenges in developing nations. It has set up India's first Solar powered Smart Microgrid in the Rajasthan hamlet of Khareda, Lakshmipura in March 2012, and in the next 2 years has expanded to a total of 49 kW capacity in 19 hamlets of Rajasthan and UP, catering to around 600 households. The company’s core innovation is in their Smart Distribution technology, consisting of their Smart Meters and Grid Monitoring Systems which provides on-demand, theft-proof power with a unique pay-as-you-use (pre-paid) schedule that is determined by the end user.As Head-Operations had undertaken the following key assignments/projects: A. Community Owned Self Sustainable ModelDeveloped and executed a model aiming at promoting community ownership of the solar plants installed in the remote sites. Under this model, capacity building was carried out for village representative to take care of revenue collection and operational issues pertaining to solar plant. Linkages were made with local government representatives for better support at the ground level. B. Site Maintenance ManualAimed at helping the site technicians at the field with a step by step process to de-bug the system. C. Monthly Rental PlansThe contemporary system was working on USE AS YOU PAY scheme, with no minimum monthly rental. Villagers engage in theft and as a result their balance does not get consume and therefore they do not recharge.We implemented minimum monthly rental plan which was aimed at reducing the financial loss to company from theft and reducing the incentive for stealing of power.D. Consumption Up-gradation SchemesRolled-out schemes for up-gradation of consumption from 2 CFLs and 1 mobile charge to Fan and Television also aimed at providing more facilities to those villagers who are willing to afford it.

To operationalise the programme, Government have constituted an exclusive State Level Society, Rajiv Education and Employment Mission in Andhra Pradesh (REEMAP). As a Program Manager my role is to develop new initiatives in terms of Skill Demand and Supply, conduct market scan in terms of available Job Opportunities and Skill Set required for those jobs, setting up linkages with industries and sectors for their participation as Training Partners, facilitating and monitoring the district level staff for proper implementation of the program.
