About Paul R.

I am living a crazy wonderful life with experiences that include vast technology learning, a wealth of great people, public speaking, music production, white water river guiding, State Farm insurance agent, electrocardiogram technician, solo airplane pilot, gardening, sailing, navigating a nuclear fast attack submarine in the US Navy, director of a non-profit, SCUBA diving, cryptography, designing and building a playhouse, collecting wines, playing guitar, and raising four children (an attorney, business school grad, high school and middle school students!) I have been so lucky to have all of these experiences and to have had the pleasure of working with so many amazing colleagues at Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and the US Navy. I am blessed with good fortune, a talented and generous wife, a big extended family, great friends, and the freedoms of a citizen of the United States of America. I appreciate my life!

  • Brc
    Pc/Network Administrator
    Brc Oct 1994 - Jan 1996
    Everett, Washington, United States
Working for an IT outourcing company, I was part of the IT department of a large hospital network in the northwest U.S. and Alaska. My role began as a personal computer support technician, taking customer support tickets from the Helpdesk. My role was general purpose so could require fixing problems with computers, peripherals, network connectivity, printing, ergonomics, installation, relocation, cabling, software installation, troubleshooting software applications, and upgrades of all kinds. I also supported end user telephony equipment and so performed troubleshooting, replacement, and programming of desk phones. One fun (outdoor IT!) project that I performed was the replacement of a long coaxial cable connection between hospital buildings. I installed conduit and fiber optic cabling through building spaces, outdoor conduit, and a parking garage. I terminated the raw fiber optic cabling to connect it to network bridges. I performed db loss calculations for the fiber optic run to ensure it would fall within recommended operating limits.
