About Paris René James

My name is Paris René James, and I'm currently a student at the University of Miami, pursuing the five year Bachelor of Architecture degree (BArch) with a minor in Motion Pictures. As a rising fifth-year student, my journey has been fueled by a deep passion for design and creative problem-solving. Through my artwork, I aim to create a connection with young people and emerging adults, providing them with a space to explore the complexities of our generation's emotions and experiences.Addressing themes of adulthood, independence, uncertainty, and resilience, I seek to draw in those who resonate with these meaningful messages. One of my recent projects, the photoshoot and short film WAVES, directed for Gravity Magazine, stands out as a defining moment in my journey. This project allowed me to fully immerse myself in the roles and responsibilities of a director, resulting in the film winning the best film award at the annual Canes Black History Film Festival.Throughout my time at UM, I've learned the importance of mastering critical thinking and time management skills, recognizing their essential role in the creative fields. As I aspire to become a creative director in the film industry, I understand the value of honing these skills. To this end, I've actively engaged in opportunities to strengthen my foundation, whether through returning to basics in my artistic practice or gaining experience as a graphic designer for the Office of Student Affairs, where I've cultivated creative problem-solving skills.Moreover, I am actively honing my skills in Adobe applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro. Additionally, I am conceptualizing my designs and ideas through 3D applications such as Rhino and Revit. As I continue to expand my skill set, I'm eager to secure a creative direction internship to gain hands-on experience and further refine my abilities, ultimately paving the way for a successful career within the film and entertainment industry.
