As a BME Ambassador, I play a key role in facilitating department events like sophomore orientation, graduation, and the engineering open house. I also lead tours of UNC’s BME department, engaging with prospective high school students, their families, and industry partners, helping to showcase our program and represent our department.

In the Nguyen lab, I assist graduate students in research focused on investigating the efficacy of bioengineered probiotics in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease using mouse models. This laboratory experience has given me in-depth knowledge, practice, and exposure to cutting-edge technology in my future career.

In the Schreiter Lab, I developed a bioluminescent calcium biosensor for dynamic calcium imaging in freely moving animals and deep tissue. Visualizing calcium dynamics in the brain can provide insights into neuronal physiological mechanisms and animal behaviors. This biosensor addresses the limitations of traditional fluorescent biosensors, such as photobleaching, phototoxicity, light scattering, and absorption, which challenge imaging capabilities in these contexts. From this research experience, I gained valuable skills in molecular cloning, protein engineering, cell culture, characterization, optimization, and bioluminescence microscopy. Additionally, I further developed essential skills in problem-solving, time management, and science communication.

As a customer service associate, I strived to make customers' experiences at Walgreens easy and enjoyable. I helped customers locate requested items, checked them out at the register, stocked shelves, managed inventory, changed price tags, and collaborated with my team members.
