Currently, I work for US Acute Care Solutions, a physician group that staffs Emergency Departments all over the country. As an FNP in the ED, I work collaboratively with an amazing group of healthcare care professionals to deliver high-quality care to those with acute health needs.I came to this role as an FNP with 9 years of emergency room experience as a nurse. I have served in a variety of roles in the department such as a staff nurse, nurse mentor, preceptor, charge nurse, and supervisor. I have also been involved in various projects such as ED throughput optimization, Quality control, and helping the department reach Level 2 Trauma status. What draws me to the Emergency Department is the "Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone" care that patients receive. The ED works as a safety net in the US, albeit an expensive safety net, for all patients with medical needs regardless of complaint, acuity, or means to pay. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal setup to deliver optimal patient care. It is my goal and hope to be involved in ways to make care more accessible and less expensive for patients. My role as an NP in the ED is to evaluate, treat, and diagnose patients with a variety of complaints, many of them undifferentiated. I get to work alongside a wonderful group of physicians that teach me something new daily. Aside from treating patients, this new role is teaching me new skills like risk stratification and improving on established skills like communication.
