For the past four years, I expected to be waving my arms to orchestral music in front of high school musicians. I wanted to be a band director, and my talent and love for music seemed to prove that’s what I’d be doing for the rest of my life. Knowing that, you will be confused when I tell you my major and what I want to do with my life, and it has to do with the Sistine Chapel. As a finance major and real estate minor at The University of Alabama, I want to work in residential home construction. What really launched that career choice forward was a trip I took in the summer of 2023. As I overlooked the dark clouds of Rome, I saw the possibilities of incredible architecture. Buildings from the two thousand year old Colosseum to purposefully-built hotels filled me with awe, and I want to create greatness like that one day. I don’t want to pump out cookie cutter houses, but instead, I want to create quality and practical works of art that people would be proud to live in, while also being affordable. I can offer future businesses the strategic vision that is necessary to drive growth, as well as hard work and extensive business knowledge through my formal education and private book study. During high school, I had the opportunity of doing janitorial work and other cleaning activities weekly for the local Vine Church in Trussville, Alabama. It taught me the value of hard work and doing things that I don’t want to do. That skill, combined with my growing knowledge of finances, business administration, and my communication abilities is what’s going to give me and the company I work for or own a competitive advantage in the field of residential home construction.
