During the last 9 years, my roles have ranged from founding the Seattle engineering presence for Indeed, growing engineering and people best practices globally to, most recently, focusing on Security, Resilience and Observability as we transition to cloud computing.Summary of responsibilities - Most recently, working on Security, Reliability and Observability challenges with a medium sized team thinking about problems around detecting change, chaos experiments, and automating compliance - Founded and ran Indeed’s contract NOC, blending FTE engineers and contractors to not just support but improve teams. - Direct management of engineers and engineering leadership with teams up to about 150 - Site Leadership or Seattle, accountable for hiring plans, attrition, engineering effectiveness, and culture for 500+ product engineering staff including many contributions to performance management and engineering best practices globally - Direct product development accountability for several groups over the years Key Accomplishments - Taking Seattle Engineering from 3 to 500 in less than 5 years with sub-3% attrition. - Delivered security and compliance automation, saving thousands of hours of engineering time - Delivered two Observability Platforms for issue detection and cloud resource management - Revamped Indeed’s interview and hiring processes including calibrations, trainings and related programs. My changes were rolled out globally across a 3700 person engineering organization. - Sponsored and ran the Ada program at Indeed and (later) Techtonica over an 8 year period. These diverse “new talent creation” organizations resulted in over 100 new and diverse software engineers at Ineeded which have career progressed as fast or faster than our new college graduate hires.
