About Ronald L. Parker, Lpg

As a borehole image log interpreter, I work by continuously looking back into the abyss of geologic time. I look at pictures of the geologic past and attempt to reassemble the processes that led to catagenic fracture generation, bedding-parallel compressional faulting, or pulsed debris-flow destruction of quiet epicontinental sea-floor muds. I apply expertise in sedimentology, mineralogy, geochemistry, hydrogeology, tectonics, and basin evolution to understand the subsurface. I love that I am challenged by the (often inscrutable) complexities of many basins. I have direct experience with the Piceance Creek, Green River, Uinta, Paradox, Powder River, Denver-Julesburg, Raton, San Juan, Midland, Delaware, Appalachian, and Michigan Basins. I have analyzed 100s of miles of resistivity and acoustic borehole image logs comprised of data from the major service providers. These include data from FMS, FMI, FMI-HD, NGI (Quanta-Geo), OBMI, Dual-OBMI, HMI, CMI, XRMI, UBI, GeoXplorer, Earth Imager, OMRI, STAR, STAR TRAK, CBIL and FracView acquisition tools. I am looking forward to next-generation oil-based mud (OBM) acquisition tools like the Halliburton StrataXaminer (HFBI). We process raw image data and analyze and interpret image log features (bedding, fractures, faults, stress indicators) using Terrasciences TerraStation II software

  • Borehole Image Specialists
    Senior Geologist
Borehole Image Specialists May 2016 - Present
    Greenwood Village, Colorado, Us
My work entails looking at borehole image log and open-hole data to characterize geologic phenomenon that a drillbit encountered while grinding a cylindrical hole into the sedimentary "icing" on the Earth's crust. My everyday work involves establishing rock structural dip ("up" is important), the orientation (and sometimes perturbation) of present-day stresses and, the spatial geometry of fault and fracture systems. The fun, however, lies in extending these data to wrench much more interesting stuff out of the archive of geologic time.
