Groupon's Paid Marketing Engineering group is responsible for advertising all Groupon deals across a variety of marketing platforms in an automated way leveraging engineering, data science and marketing techniques. As one of the early recruits, I was able to drive a lot of the critical initiatives that were used across the whole group.• RTA: Owner and maintainer of a real-time attribution data pipeline that attributes Groupon clicks and orders to marketing channels using technologies such as Spark on Hadoop, Hive, Kafka and Elastic Search. This enables downstream services to analyze campaign performance and adjust bids accordingly. This has helped Search Engine Marketing (SEM) as well as other non-brand channels to increase bookings by 50% YoY.• GAlpha: Lead a project to launch a new map based ads experience with Google that helped SEM non-brand business increase bookings by additional 10% YoY. Developed a mechanism to fuzzy match Groupon merchant data with Google places to achieve extra 20% match rate and help clean internal data. Worked with product managers to documents requirements, simplify integration and ensure on-time delivery.• Worked with Product team to identify opportunities to reduce inefficient marketing spend. Invented a solution to broaden ad geo-targeting by analyzing user purchase locations and that led to an additional 5% in YoY bookings.
