Once upon a time, I thought I wanted to be a dentist, but I was mistaken. After all, dentists make a good living and they seem to have amazing work hours, especially for healthcare providers. My career after college started at VCU's School of Dentistry, where I thought I would get my foot in the door. It turns out, I didn't have that true passion for the art of dentistry that makes a person successful in their trade. When people asked me why I wanted to be a dentist, I started talking about how we would make patients comfortable, what kind of services we would offer (such as foot massages) that others didn't, and how our business hours would benefit both employees and patients. It dawned on me: I'm not into dentistry; I'm into Business Administration!So, I took a grad level course at VCU, and suddenly realized that you are actually supposed to feel engaged in college courses. I never realized the passion you could feel for your trade, until I was able to take my education and experience and really apply it to better an entire company. You never know where circumstances will direct you, but I am glad to have found my niche. Of course, if I had just listened, way back at age 16, to the college board test that told me that I should be a Healthcare Administrator, I could have saved a lot of time. But my goodness have I learned a lot!
