My internship was based in the Capital & Insurance Team within British Gas Insurance.The Capital & Insurance Team develops a bespoke capital model which determines the capital required to meet regulatory requirements (FCA & PRA) as one of the largest insurers in the UK. Some of my tasks included:• Preparing data for input to a general linear modelling tool (Emblem)• Amending models to give alternatives as part of validation work• Obtaining and validating input data for stochastic models• Creating a bespoke analytical Excel Model• Updating Excel spreadsheets for increased calculation efficiency• Attending team meetings to discuss the groups risk appetiteThe internship gave me great exposure to different parts of the risk team, such as operational and underwriting risk.
