About Pascal Zajac

I'm passionate about people, technology and combining the two to solve problems. I enjoy working with small teams of driven and capable engineers to create delightful and reliable products and services.In my career I've transitioned from a frontend focused individual contributor, to a server-side engineer, to a manager responsible for up to 50 engineers, focused on building all layers of the BigCommerce platform, from deployments to APIs to UI. I've been responsible for hiring, firing, career growth, technical strategy and product direction. I believe strongly in leading by example.I have experience across a broad cross-section of web technologies, primarily focusing on PHP, Node and Java on the server-side, and TypeScript and React for frontend development. In my side business with Coconut Graphics I have been responsible for all elements of development and delivery, including creating and managing our Git repos and deploying our app on Ubuntu atop Amazon EC2 using Puppet, managing snapshot backups, continuous delivery, etc.Personally, I read, game and play tennis a lot. I enjoy first-person shooters and RPGs, and I love reading fantasy, science fiction, history, science, medicine, philosophy and literature.
