Co-Founder / DirectorFab-Hab Project Jan 2020 - May 2021Oxfordshire, England, United KingdomFAB-HAB Project was a design and construction company with a bold ambition: to transform the way homes are built, to minimise environmental impact and maximise social impact. Our timber-frame, modular FAB-HAB system was:BeautifulLow-cost / quick and easy to buildZero-carbon / climate-positiveFor social housing, tiny homes, home offices and garden roomsStarted-up barely months before the Covid-19 pandemic, we managed to secure regional Local Enterprise Partnership funding to build a prototype building, which was developed in the autumn of 2020. Unfortunately, the overriding economic conditions (construction was closed down for much of 2020) and the need for capital investment in a prototype product, meant the business closed down after 17 months. The prototype building was successfully completed, but we were unable to secure funding and resources for the next stage of development - to move production to a simpler, off-site model requiring less time to finish the building on-site.Our Fab-Hab prototype building made the six-long shortlist in the final of the 2021 Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) national awards.
