I am a pastor who has served congregations in the Presbyterian Church - PC(USA); United Church of Christ (UCC), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and United Methodist Church (UMC). I am creating the Center for Faith and Peacemaking, which brings people of faith and faith communities together across the religious landscape to engage their faith traditions as they work together for the things which make for true peace and justice: accessibility, equality, inclusion, and welcome. Part of this work, which I do from my home region of North Iowa, includes coordinating the Iowa Faith Leadership Network, Neurodiversity-Affirming Congregations, We Parent Together, and Family Welcome Centers International.I am a former international human rights and interfaith peace worker who has trained over 1,000 international volunteers in human rights documentation and reporting. I have consulted, studied, volunteered and/or served with organizations such as Christian Peacemaker Teams (now Community Peacemaker Teams), the Middle East Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches' Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), Voices in the Wilderness/ Voices for Creative Nonviolence, the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and L'Arche. My work has taken me to places such as the Holy Land (Israel and Palestine), Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, as well as Central America and the U.S./ Mexico borderlands. In Iraq in 2003-2004, I spent a year documenting and reporting what the world would later come to know as the Abu Ghraib Scandal.
