IBCP was founded out of concern for all of Irelands bees, Solitary,Bumble and Honeybee. It is the only Irish Charity dedicated to providing Community engagement, bee habitat support, education and research.

Supporting habitat for all Native bee pollinators and research for disease resistant Native Irish black bees

Providing a pollination service in West Co.waterford in return for a honey crop. Our bees are all Native Irish Honey bees which have bee part of the Island for thousands of years.

The Déise Beekeeping & Conservation Association in collaboration with the Native Irish Honey Bee Society, Limerick IT and NUI Galway, supported by DAFM, are working on a project to improve the survival of Apis mellifera mellifera in the wild. The project began by screening colonies from 20 apiaries throughout Ireland for their ability to remove freeze killed brood following treatment with liquid Nitrogen. Colonies showing between 70% -100% dead brood removal, (FKB+), were selected for further breeding at the research apiary in Dungarvan. Work is now ongoing to breed subsequent generations from selected queens, study the stability of the trait, challenge FKB+ colonies by infecting with Varroa, examine the effects of selected drones on the expression of hygienic behaviour and commence the process of releasing selected colonies into the wild.
