June 1990 – Present (21 years 11 months) I am an educator specializing in Distance Education (e-learning, fully online and blended). I specialize in DE program planning and course design and assist schools wanting to develop distance learning programs. I also train new online instructors in how to teach quality online courses, transfer their traditional courses to the DE environment, create completely new courses with DE as the goal, use web 2.0 tools effectively with students and more. I received the Technology Focus Award from the California Community College Chancellor's Office and am known for quality program and course design. I have been the co-director of the @ONE project and lead designer in its Certification program for the past four years. Concurrent with my role at @ONE, I have served as Dean of DE at Mt. San Jacinto College, part of the California Community College system, and am known state-wide for developing quality procedures and policies that have been adopted by many California Community Colleges. I've consulted with several districts for DE program planning and have done considerable training activities for online instructors and administrators and just received a second California Community College Chancellor’s Office award for our MSJC Teaching, Learning and Technology Academy program. As a faculty member, I taught multimedia production online to college students for nine years, building and teaching my own courses. In the past two years I have been developing an international students’ online program and hope to continue to build international partnerships with educators wanting to incorporate California’s quality program precepts into programs around the world. My background is in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and my Masters’ Degree is in Education with an emphasis on instructional design for online learning from Capella University.

I am excited to work with Dr. Vernon Smith and the Academic Partnerships team to build transfer pathways from community colleges across the country to APUS' high-quality online programs. Stop saying that Online Education is not for everyone because Access certainly is for everyone! Make it work by providing resources for students and faculty members. I led the founding years of the CCC Online Education Initiative (OEI) with an initial budget of $56.9 million, an additional $20 million one time funds, and an ongoing budget of $10 million for the OEI eco-system and consortium operation and $10million ongoing funding of Canvas as the state-wide LMS . The mission of the OEI is to provide access to high-quality online education to the students of California. The OEI developed an eco-system of resources to the 114 community colleges in the California system. The resources included the selection and implementation of a common learning management system, which has been adopted by 113 of the colleges. In addition the initiative implemented faculty support services and a variety of other resources needed to create strong online programs across the colleges. http://ccconlineed.org
