Lead staff for the United Way’s Family Health Strategies which focuses on the social determinants that impact the health and well-being of individuals and families living in the Roanoke Valley. Key initiatives in this work include Healthy Roanoke Valley (HRV) , HRV Pathways HUB, Healthy Start, and BankOn Roanoke Valley. In collaboration with cross-sector community leaders and partners, the Director leads the strategic direction for coalition building, community health planning, resource development, and implementation of programs.

Responsible for teaching undergraduate “Introduction to Nutrition” courses. Developed and taught “Laboratory Methods in Foods and Nutrition”, a core requirement for majors in Foods and Nutrition. Conducted up-skilling workshops regarding Waivered Point of Care laboratory testing and Medical Nutrition Therapy to graduate students in the Dietetic Internship program. Visited interns at clinical rotation sites. Guest lecturer for graduate Family Nurse Practitioner courses. Participated in department committee work and involved in a peer review pilot study of the Foods and Nutrition faculty.

Administrative/professional faculty member responsible for coordinating and implementing start-up operations pertaining to interdisciplinary health and human services at Radford University Clinics. Service lines included Audiology, Speech Language Pathology, Nursing, Nutrition, Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Mental Health Counseling and Medical Technology. Worked with faculty, staff, and students of Radford University to establish new programs and initiatives consistent with the mission of Radford University Clinics. Established nurse practice arrangements in rural, medically underserved areas of Southwest Virginia. Helped to initiate The Pharmacy Connection program. Involved with design of policy and procedures related to clinic services; hiring and supervision of clinic staff; budget forecasting; and supply procurement. Worked with business consultants to establish a medical billing system and fee schedules. Obtained provider contracts with Medicare and Medicaid. Implemented OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and other clinical protocols in the clinics. Collaborated with private and community agencies to develop partnerships. Managed an on-campus facility and mobile unit. Assisted Principal Investigators with grant management and assisted with grant proposals. Prepared annual reports, strategic plans, and other pertinent evaluations of clinic activities. Provided direct services to clients and patients of Radford University Clinics, and served as a preceptor to students.

Supervised clinical staff of 11 (RN’s, LPN’s, Registered Radiology Technicians, Medical Laboratory Technologists). Arranged work and vacation schedules, provided employee orientation and training. Involved in employee search and interview process. Managed nursing, laboratory, and x-ray work practices and coordinated them with M.D.’s and Nurse Practitioner’s schedules and requirements. Maintained CLIA and AAFP-PT credentials for office laboratory. Responsible for design and implementation of OSHA Exposure Control Plan, Hazard Communication Plan, and Fire Safety and Egress policies. Performed outpatient nutrition counseling for patients referred by M.D.’s, FNP’s, psychologists, exercise physiologists, and personal trainers in the Roanoke Valley. Specialized in counseling adolescents with eating disorders.
