Founder, Cio, Principal Consultant
Systems Integration Engineer
I am engaged with data science, AI, and full stack development to produce analytical insights and actionable intelligence from petabytes of granular data from prototype and pre-production vehicles.
Founder, Cio, Principal Consultant
I founded, a management consulting firm based on mathematical modeling solutions to complex problems - mostly in the business analytics and energy domains. Major engagements include:Drucker Institute (Claremont College) - designed and implemented a Python-based analytical system to ingest, process, analyze, and archive corporate profile data to support an exchange traded fund index.- Sandia National Laboratory: developed commercial end use energy forecasting tools and analysis. Taught mathematical modeling courses to scientific staff.- Intel: supply chain modeling and analysis to better understand and manage production of second-tier chips across multiple fabrication facilities.- Bonneville Power Administration: Substantial enhancements on a strategic conservation analysis model and "post-production" conservation program evaluation.- Idaho National Laboratory: Simulation modeling to assist management of high-level nuclear waste under conditions of high risk and uncertainty.- FilmProfit: financial analysis and modeling of multi-modal revenue streams for portfolios of filmed entertainment properties.- Paradym Business Simulators: co-founder and CEO/CIO of North American operations. Shared the supervision of 20 developers and managed staff in three countries. Also, as internal projects I developed patents for software and machinery for a GPS-based information system and an AI-based Burmese python trapping and identification system.During this time, I've taken forays to do technical management at Symmetrics (my best client's firm), academics, and to produce ApacheCon and DjangoCon (with HoldenWeb).- O'Reilly School of Technology: advanced Python instructor (top rated in the School). Also shared the Dean of Faculty position and developed mathematical models for business planning. Also published "Advanced Python - An Immersive Fast-Track Guide" and "Introduction to Python - An Immersive Fast-Track Guide".
V.P., Research And Development / Cto
I was responsible for development and management of:- internal and client-facing mathematical modeling tools. - web-base dynamic simulation tools that allowed C-level executives understand complex psychometric research in the form of a "video game". - internally-facing information management system that made extensive use of databases that contained the market research information, as well as other data streams pertinent to individual client needs e.g., macroeconomic forecasting, product life-cycle, and consumer demographics.- all network, workstation, and infrastructure hardware, software and support- all "back office" production automation tools to support a $40MM organization.- internal IT support staff, external support staff, and partnerships with a variety of outside vendors with a budget of +/- $500K.The domain space included psychometric, financial, and general business simulation, all in support of large-scale market research projects, and some involved with the electric utility sector. Our clients included Salt River Project, Whirlpool, Allstate, H-P, and Microsoft. The skills/techniques I applied included cybernetics, structural equation modeling, optimization, database development, web development, and complex spreadsheet analysis. The tools I used included Matlab, Powersim, Python, MySQL, Django, SPSS, LISREL, Netica (Bayesian modeling), C++, and a variety of custom applications I built to support specialized analysis. To handle production automation I employed Microsoft tools including Access, SQL Server, and VBA. I also have some experience with Java, PHP, and working with cloud-based platforms such as AWS.
Energy Scientist
I worked with several regional including the Conservation Planning Analysis Model in the Pacific Northwest and national mathematical modeling tools, such as FOSSIL-2 and the SGM. The modeling and analysis included the long-term, system level impacts of different conservation acquisition strategies, tax/financial alternatives, social equity, emissions, etc. I was a key technical contributor to the first National Energy Strategy, the first Report To Congress On Global Warming, and to two Stanford Energy Modeling Forums. Separately, I conducted an evaluation study for conservation codes in Washington State, and built five strategic planning models for the Western Area Power Administration, to help determine the environmental impacts of various planning scenarios under consideration.
Strategic Planner (Conservation)
I worked with, and contributed to, a variety of strategic planning tools used to evaluate resource acquisition decisions. For most of my tenure I worked with the Office of Conservation where I deployed models to combine: engineering estimates of conservation potential; consumer/utility economic decision-making; variations in hydro system production, aluminum prices, gas prices, etc. to develop regional benefits analysis of different acquisition strategies. I also worked with the Council/Bonneville Decision Analysis Model, Bonneville’s Decision Analysis Model, and various stream flow, rates, and load forecasting modeling tools. The content of this work, combined with its systems-level perspective, has given me a comprehensive perspective of the general operation of the Pacific Northwest energy system, particularly regarding integration of conservation/renewable resources.
Load/Economic Analyst
I developed and deployed mathematical models and economic analysis to forecast electric load over the five-state New England region.
