After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps to reserve status, Mr. Cline attended the Maxwell Institute where he learned to program computers in several languages. At age twenty-one, after developing several commercial software programs, he developed one of the industry's first medical practice management systems. By the late '80s the product was used in hundreds of medical practices and Cline's first startup was successfully sold. His second startup developed NextGen, now one of the top electronic health record systems. The company was acquired in 1996 by a small publicly held company and Cline and his team agreed to stay on to run the NextGen subsidiary. NextGen became one of the most impressive growth stories on Wall Street. In one period, the company's trailing ten-year stock price appreciation ranked #3 of all publicly held companies on all exchanges. In one five-year period, shareholders realized a 1000% return. As the company's market cap approached three billion dollars in 2011, Cline retired from his role as president and chief strategy officer. In 2013, Cline founded Lightbeam Health Solutions, now a leading value-based care enablement company, where he serves as Executive Chairman. A 42-year veteran of the healthcare IT field, Cline is a respected strategist and highly experienced operator. He sits on multiple boards and as a certified coach, he mentors other executives in the areas of leadership, balance, communication, teamwork and goal achievement.
